From bold party pieces to universal suiting, here’s what to expect when getting dressed for your (or your loved one’s) upcoming nuptials.
Everyday fashion trends are cyclical: What we see today is a reiteration of what was once popular in past decades—and the same concept holds true for wedding fashion. The styles that brides, grooms, wedding parties, and parents are currently wearing are an updated version of what was once popular down the aisles several seasons ago. So, as we enter a new year of nuptials, the best way to predict the top wedding fashion trends for 2024 is to look back at what has shaped the industry over the last decade.
For starters, given the recent revival of large, party-centric weddings, we can expect to see individuals wearing looks that align with a big day’s celebratory nature. We’ve also seen a drastic shift towards individuality in the wedding space, as couples increasingly choose to break the rules and lean more towards personalized affairs that reinforce their love story. Because of this, 2024 wedding fashion trends will feel increasingly unique, focusing primarily on personal style.
But of course, there’s more to 2024 big-day fashion than a unique point of view. To help break down this exciting new year of “remixed wedding attire,” we asked several fashion experts to share their insights on the top trends brides, grooms, and VIPs can expect to see in 2024. Read on to learn more.
Enchanted Garden Florals
Florals aren’t a revolutionary concept in the wedding fashion space, but in 2024, bloom-patterned fabrics will make a defining statement when it comes to mother-of-the-bride and -groom attire. As part of a trend we’re calling “Enchanted Garden,” we predict that many moms will sport looks with a variety of floral motifs, whether painted, embroidered, or patterned. Brides might follow suit—and dress their bridal parties in pieces with beautiful blooms.
“The ‘Enchanted Garden’ trend is reshaping options for mothers of the brides and grooms, as well as bridal parties,” affirms Georgina Chapman, co-founder and creative director of Marchesa. “They’re moving away from conservative, solid colors and opting for vibrant floral prints and embellishments, embracing a more expressive and joyful fashion approach.” Brides and grooms can embrace this style, too, if they’d like to add a splash of floral personality to their big-day ensembles, but this trend is expected to be most popular for moms and bridesmaids in 2024.
Classically Bridal Wedding Dresses
There’s nothing more timeless than a traditional wedding dress, which is why they’re back in a big way: The classically bridal fashion trend is expected to soar to new heights in 2024. Think about it—between A-line gowns with lace and crystal embroidery and strapless princess ball gowns made entirely of tulle, nothing says “bride” quite like a traditional ensemble floating down an aisle. “A classic bridal gown holds a timeless appeal for brides who cherish traditional aesthetics and silhouettes. In 2024, classic bridal gowns will continue to be a popular choice,” shares Chapman.
That said, designers are expected to add modern elements to these iconic designs in order to prevent this aesthetic from feeling dated. Chapman, in particular, notes that she’s “introducing modern updates through convertible accessories, allowing [brides] to add a contemporary twist to their timeless look and the versatility to achieve multiple styles with a single gown.”
Bold Party Pieces
Though classic bridal designs will dominate, bold party pieces will also make an appearance in the wedding fashion space in 2024. Natalie De’banco, founder and designer of Bronx and Banco, shares that this trend will cater to brides who enjoy experimenting with nonconventional styles—such as two-piece sets and sheer or sequined maxi dresses—both in the bridal world and in everyday life.
Nadine Merabi, co-founder and designer of her eponymous label, agrees, adding that this trend is “all about self-expression”—it’s a way for brides to show off their unique personalities. “Our Lottie White dress and Lucinda White jumpsuit are perfect for those brides who are looking to make their special day a little different and really make a statement,” she explains. “Our styles allow brides to be themselves and showcase their individuality, while still looking incredibly chic and sophisticated.”
An extension of bold party pieces, wedding suits are a major trend that 2024 brides should take note of. “The bridal fashion landscape is evolving, and I’m thrilled to see how brides are embracing the trend of suiting with enthusiasm and style,” shares Merabi. “It’s a game-changer, offering brides the freedom to mix and match incredibly tailored separate pieces that truly reflect their unique tastes and personalities. These modern, sophisticated looks are redefining bridal fashion, allowing brides to curate a one-of-a-kind ensemble that speaks to their individuality.”
Best of all? Everyone can (and should!) get in on the fun: We expect to see bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom embracing this trend—and love that it’s a seamless choice for those searching for gender-neutral attire.
Detailed Menswear Looks
Last but certainly not least, 2024 will be the year when men fully invest in their big-day looks. “Gone are the days where it’s acceptable for men to ‘just show up.’ In fact, men are being held to much higher standards by their friends, co-workers, and significant others,” explains Fola Lawson, founder and creative director of Southern Gents. “Paying attention to one’s style has become a priority for men who want to avoid being the odd one out.” This is why grooms, fathers of the bride and groom, and groomsmen will steadily embrace the big and small elements of their attire—details they might have otherwise ignored in years past.
This starts with the perfect fit: We should expect to see men opting for suits that are expertly tailored, as opposed to options that are rented or worn off-the-rack, says Lawson. “When it comes to style in general, and wedding style for men, tailoring is the saving grace,” he explains. “A good tailor can make a decent suit look stunning. On the contrary, a great suit without proper tailoring will miss the mark.” More colorful menswear pieces, like green, pink, and floral-patterned suits, will also reign supreme—and well-crafted shirts, ties, and shoes that suit the dress code of the celebration will also be prioritized.
Accessories that are unexpected, but wedding-appropriate, like hats, necklaces, and multiple rings worn adjacent to the wedding band, will round out these bold looks—and might become just as important as the suit itself, Lawson adds. Lastly, lapel pins are expected to become even more prevalent in 2024 (after rising to mainstream popularity in the wedding space in 2022), as will unique and modern variations of boutonnières and luxury watches, shares Lawson. “It’s literally the cherry on top for any groom’s attire, and typically brings any suiting color to life,” he says. For the guys, details matter on such an important day—and the grooms of 2024 are paying attention.
