Fendi has reinvented its classic Peekaboo bag with a nineties twist, coined the Peekaboo Cut Bag. The Peekaboo Cut was originally shown as a part of Fendi’s Spring Summer 2023 Runway show, which was largely inspired by the brand’s history, specifically the era of Fendi that was run by Karl Lagerfeld. “It’s about continuity,” said Creative Director Kim Jones in regard to the show back in September. “I am interested in looking at things that Karl has done, and seeing how we can develop them – both visually and technically.”
The Peekaboo Cut reveals the iconic metal bar and twist lock of the classic Peekaboo with a horizontal cut. The trapezoidal shape gives the silhouette a sharpness, while for the first time, a Peekaboo has been given an o-lock chain which brings a modern edge to the bag. The metal hardware of the chain, horizontal bar, and lock have all been created with a vintage silver finish.
The bag is being offered in two sizes; medium and petite, and will be offered in a wide range of colors and fabrications. Fendi’s use of color is nothing short of playful, with bags appearing in bright pink and green, as well and being offered in a range of exotics in python and crocodile. For the exotic renditions of the Peekaboo Cut, the hardware is done in lacquered colors that give a punchy contrast to the bag.
Fendi’s Peekaboo Cut is a handbag that brings a contemporary flair to one of the Italian fashion house’s most beloved silhouettes, with vibrant colors, edgy hardware, and a sleek design. The bag will be available starting this Thursday, February 9th via Fendi.
