Romantic Renaissance
A luxurious trend to highlight is the romantic renaissance. This trend is a throwback to the glamour of the Renaissance era taking you back in time… The romantic renaissance trend is all about embellishing your style with luxurious fabrics like faux fur, velvet, or cashmere. It’s also about rich color palettes like gold, burgundy, and teal. This trend is the perfect way to stand out from the crowd during sometimes a gloomy looking winter. You can go for high-end accessories like fur-lined gloves and velvet bags. For those more formal events, you can also choose to dress up in full length dresses made with jewel tone heavier fabrics. A staple to consider that will go with everything from formal gowns to jeans is a floor-sweeping coat that will always make you feel royal.
Artisanal Vintage
Next in line is the artisanal vintage trend. This trend is all about bringing the aesthetic of the past to life in a new way. These are vintage-inspired pieces that are made with the same traditional craftsmanship as in the olden days. When it comes to winter fashion, artisanal vintage means bringing the past forward in a beautiful way. If you want to try this trend, you can go for pieces that are inspired by warm, vintage fashions, perhaps choosing items made or trimmed with brocade or velvet. Enjoying fashion does not have to be a financial burden. Keep in mind that there are plenty of consignment and secondhand shops all over Monmouth County, to mine your gems. In fact, secondhand stores are trending right now with fashionistas everywhere! The Goodwill store located in Hazlet, is often buzzing with fashion seekers looking for a great deal, or two, or three… or even walking out with an arm full of great finds!
Intricate Embroidery, 3D Embellishing, and Cut-Outs
If you love embellishments and embroidery, the intricate embroidery trend is for you. This trend is all about going a bit overboard with appliqué and embroidery. You can find this trend in high-end and luxury brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Prada, and Chanel. However, you don’t have to be able to afford those brands to wear the embellished fashions. The department stores and even variety stores like Target carry their own lines of trending fashions. You can shop the second hand stores as mentioned above. A fun idea that is also a great activity is a DIY: You can browse the local craft stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s in Holmdel, which carry an abundance of ready to use appliques that are so easy to decorate some of your existing pieces. Winter 2023 is also about oversize silhouettes, in muted or bold colors. The 3D print fabrics trend is the perfect way to combine two trends – intricate embroidery and 3D-printed textures. If you want to try this trend, you can go for designs trimmed with fur, feathers, leather, lace, or woven fabric. The opposite of embellishing with appliques is cutting out material, hence the trend of cut-outs on shoulders, waistlines, arms, etc.
Leather, Pleather and Denim
Leather and Pleather dresses, pants and skirts are hot hot hot this winter season! Anything denim is in, even denim dresses are back in style! The versatility of mixing leather and denim for casual and dress makes them an easy staple for anyone’s wardrobe. This season’s leathers and pleathers come in a variety of colors far beyond the typical black or brown. This winter’s leather pleather choices include, alot of red, purple, green, blue… Even Target in Middletown has a great selection right now including a cranberry red pleather dress perfect for any holiday parties!
Rich Merino Wool
The merino wool trend has been popular in the fashion industry for both men and women for a few years now. It has become even more popular with brands like H&M bringing merino wool products at an affordable price. This is a perfect trend for our East Coast living, where wearing wool is an easier transition with the change of seasons.
Cozy Faux Fur Coats
This trend is all about combining the aesthetic of classic and modern fashion, and brings together the warmth of fur and the modern silhouettes of short fitted (nicely paired with tights, jeans or leather/pleather pants), or longer over sized coats that can cover anything beneath. The really fun part about this trend is the coats are available in rich and vibrant colors like red, green, hot pink, blue, or purple. Kohls in Holmdel and Middletown has a nice selection right now, including a bright green floor length furry/fuzzy faux fur. If you want to give your look a bang but don’t really feel like dressing up, you could basically wear any foundation, for example a black T-shirt and leggings, throw on your brightly colored long faux fur and bam! You make a statement!
Oversized Knitwear and Blazers
Perfect for enjoying a cozy holiday is the oversized knitwear trend. You can find this trend in high-end fashion brands like Chanel, Hermès, and Louis Vuitton. You can also find this trend in celebrity street style looks with oversized knits being one of the most-worn pieces. Remember those big oversized blazers of the 90’s? Yep, those are back too, shoulder pads and all. In the knits and blazers, you can go for bold patterns like chevron, leopard, or geometric prints, bright colors like hot pink, or choose muted solids. Sweater necklines vary from a loose over the one shoulder look, to cow and turtle necks. This trend is perfect for people who want to keep their winter wardrobe minimalistic without compromising style. It’s a versatile winter trend that can be paired with almost any kind of outfit; over a dress, with a long skirt, short skirt, with tights or sweats. An oversized sweater can be dressed up or down, making it an easy piece to transition from work to play!
